Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 2026. This policy outlines how Wellstead Pharmacy handles personal and sensitive health information.

Notice: Draft Document Requiring Formal Legal ReviewThis privacy policy represents a tailored operational draft. Prior to official public deployment, it must be reviewed and formally authorized by the pharmacy proprietor and an Australian healthcare legal specialist.

1. Our Commitment to Your Privacy

Wellstead Pharmacy (“we”, “our”, “us”) is committed to protecting the privacy and confidentiality of personal and sensitive health information collected from our patients and website visitors. We are bound by the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the thirteen Australian Privacy Principles (APPs), as well as applicable Victorian health records legislation (including the Health Records Act 2001 (Vic)).

2. Types of Information We Collect

Depending on the service provided, we may collect:

  • Contact Information: Full name, telephone number, email address, and residential address.
  • Government Identifiers: Medicare number, Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA) file number, concession card numbers, and National Diabetes Services Scheme (NDSS) registration number.
  • Health Information: Prescription records, medication history, allergies, adverse reactions, clinical screening results (such as blood pressure readings), and immunisation administration data.

3. How We Collect and Use Information

We collect information primarily from you directly (e.g. when you present a prescription, enrol in an Active Script List, request a Webster-pak, or submit an online contact enquiry). In certain clinical circumstances, we may also receive information from your treating medical clinic, hospital discharge coordinators, or the national Prescription Exchange Service (eRx / MediSecure).

Your health data is used exclusively for:

  • Dispensing prescription medicines accurately and safely under the PBS.
  • Providing medication reconciliation, MedsCheck reviews, and dose packaging.
  • Administering vaccines and transmitting records to the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR).
  • Supplying subsidised diabetes consumables via the NDSS portal.
  • Responding to your specific enquiries submitted via telephone or web form.

4. Website Forms and Digital Security

When you submit a contact enquiry through our website, your information is encrypted in transit using Transport Layer Security (TLS/HTTPS). We do not collect detailed clinical records or credit card numbers over web enquiry forms. We strictly prohibit the disclosure of patient health data to advertising or third-party analytics brokers.

5. Storage, Retention, and Access

Prescription records and clinical notes are retained in accordance with statutory Victorian and Commonwealth pharmacy regulations (generally 7 years for adults, or until age 25 for children). All electronic records are secured behind encrypted dispensary firewalls and password-protected software.

You have the right to request access to your personal and health information held by Wattle Park Pharmacy, or request correction of inaccurate records, subject to exceptions permitted by law.
